We've Moved!

So shortly after the last post, I decided to go "balls to the wall" and take this blog to the next level. We went PRO.

As in, http://PROJewelryDesign.com

Yes, I know. Blogger fans will hate me for this, but I vaulted up to a Wordpress privately hosted platform. Mainly due to the ability of owning my content and running less risk of losing my stuff. Anyway, we're happily blogging away over at the new site, so check us out!

Cheers,

The Working World of an "At-Home" Artist...

So this is it. I'm jumping in full force to maintaining a relevant blog to the world of jewelry around me here at home and abroad. Although, truth be told, I may stay fully continental for now until I get a firm grasp of the many balls I'm juggling.

As you might have noticed, I started this blog a while ago and it unfortunately got lost in the rigors of everyday life as a work-from-home artist with two kids, a busy Coast Guard husband, 2 dogs and a load of after school activities. However, things have settled down a bit with the soon to be 2 year old and she's playing more independently, allowing me more freedom to focus on my work again. And this time I'm not getting sidetracked!

The summer was spent in FL on hiatus like it usually is, and I garnered a new appreciation for jewelry yet again. I don't know if it's the bright tropic inspired colors or the copious amounts of sunshine or even the sometimes gentle lapping and sometimes loudly roaring ocean, but I always come home with a renewed sense of unique and soulfully artistic jewelry ideas. In any event, get ready for a new (school) year filled with links to fellow artists, reviews and exciting developments in the world of jewelry tools and as always, a generous helping of photographs and tutorials from my own jewelry bench.

Our website, http://www.turtlebayjewelry.com , which has been in successful operation for over 6 years now, is about to undergo some renovations, so be sure to jump on the email list there and be kept afloat of our developments. We like to stay current and we're sure you do too.

Until next time,

Fair Winds and Following Seas,

Beach Bumming It!

This is what happens to your work ethic when you take a vacation to FL! I've been playing in the pool with my kiddos and totally ignoring the box of work sitting in the beach house. I really need to get on it though, as I have a show coming at me quite quickly once I get back home to NY in September. /sigh So much for Fantasy Island. LOL.

In all honesty, I -did- just get a new shipment of beads and such, so I have lots to work with and will post some pics soon of newer items to the inventory.

Until then, Fair Winds and Following Seas!

Welcome!

Hey there! How'd you get here?

Let me guess...

I was totally tech savy and drew you from my website? Or you just love jewelry so much you went looking for artsy blogs about it? It was all a happy accident?

Well, whichever it is, I'm glad you're here. I hope you come back, and if you aren't sure yet, pull up a beach chair and stay a while. I'll tell you a little about our endeavor here on Blogger.

My name is Danielle, as the caption to the right says. I'm a metalsmith/glass bead maker who makes Artisan Jewelry. Not the cheapy kind of stuff you find at flea markets, or even the amateur stuff you see at smaller websites (hats off to them for learning the business). I work primarily with precious metals (i.e. silver/gold/brass/copper) and semi-precious stones, beads, textiles, etc. I also am in love with melting glass and making my own beads. I'm not as accomlished at that, but I'm working my way there, and the journey is half the battle...or so they say.

Anyway, what was I saying? Oh yes, about my work...

So at this point, you're thinking, "Oh yeah, sure, another crappy jewelry person", right? Ha-HA! That's where you're wrong. My jewelry has a unique twist. I have a love affair with the ocean. It's my muse. Maybe it's because I'm a Coast Guard wife and I'm married to a salty sailor....that's part of it, sure. But mostly, it's because my other home is by the sea. It's a wonderul stretch of pure white sugar sand in the northern section of FL, right along the Gulf of Mexico.

Anyway, I strive to evoke memories of the beach in my pieces. Every piece is one of a kind, there is no person walking around with the same bracelet as you. Each piece has a distinct name that the muse design stems from, and most are accordingly labeled with sterling tags. My color palettes are sometimes sublime, sometimes earthy, sometimes vibrant. Whichever you choose, there's something there for you.

I utilize semi-precious stones, hard to find beads, handmade glass baubles, textiles, Irish Linen....there's a little bit of everything for your viewing pleasure. I also have a custom form for those that have a distinct idea they'd like executed. Quite a bit of my work is custom, so if you have something you're after, don't be shy. Just ask!

I also have a few tutorials for those interested in wire working and cold joining techniques, but there's hiding on my site, so drop me a line if you're inquiring.

I also do wholesale my work to galleries and museums. If you're a store owner and are interested in wholesale pricing or are a museum interested in a piece for your shop or display, please go to my website ( http://www.turtlebayjewelry.com ) and click on the About Tab. There, you can get my contact information, or find right what you're looking for on that page.

My pieces have found their way to the Worcester Center for Crafts, the Kentucky Museum of Art and Craft, and various boutiques and shops across the country.

I currently reside in the Big Apple (New York City, baby!) and I teach Jewelry making classes and offer one-on-one lessons if you're so inclined.

Anyway you slice it, I'm a beach girl, living in the big city and spreading sand and sun where ever I may go.

Hope to see more of you here on my site, and take a moment to visit my website and join our mailing list. Don't worry, we don't send spam and we won't sell your information.

Fair Winds and Following Seas,

~Danielle
